WHICH VOICE ARE YOU HEARING?

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis 3:3

This age-long battle has been raging since the dawn of time. God’s voice has always been met with the contradicting, distracting voice of the devil. Very much so in the garden with Eve, the devil will try to downplay God’s instructions by proposing some flux. It would appear as a good proposition at face value. Yet, the test of time will reveal how short-sighted and unwise it is to land a listening ear to the devil. Throughout history, the devil has been faithful to his title of liar and deceiver of men. This scenery has not changed in ages, the devil having the advantage of experiences and years will try to mislead men into helping him with his destructive agenda for mankind. Today this war is increasingly raging as his reign is coming to an end. The choice between life and death is for everyone to make. Deut. 30: 19 “This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before your life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live”.

The believer will be careful to protect his mind from the assault of the enemy seeking to plant seeds of doubt and confusion. There is a saying that the idle mind is the devil’s workshop, the believer will therefore need to nourish his mind with Christ-like thoughts. Paul gives us the recipe in Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things”. In other words, the same energy it takes the devil to pollute the mind is the same it takes the believer to plant something good in it. By listening and pounding on the devil’s suggestions, Eve allowed her mind to be corrupted with another source of information other than God. The result will always be sin.
