Here is Christmas !

"A savior has been born to you" Luke 2:11

Christmas, graft of a pagan celebration ? For some time, an abundance of literature has compelled the audience to convince of the pagan origin of the Christmas holiday and concluded, for certain authors, that it would be unworthy of a Christian to celebrate such a holiday. We are told that it was a feast in honor of several deities and certain natural facts including the winter solstice or the rebirth of the sun.

But wouldn’t the one who created the sun and who is the light of the world deserve a vivid commemoration of the greatness of his works ? "He wraps himself in light like a cloak" (Psalms 104 : 2). Better still, Jesus will say to those who believed in him : "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14).

Just because this day was chosen to overshadow a pagan holiday, it would be unworthy of Christ in the eyes of some puritans. If God could not approve such a freedom of men to honor his son, how could he order Gideon to destroy the altar of Baal that his father had erected and to build in its place an altar dedicated to the Everlasting, to use the wood of the idol to make the fire to be used for the holocaust (Judges 6 : 25-26) ?

Symbol of renewal that would mean that the idol must disappear for the God of glory to take place.

This is not an apology for any idolatrous worship offered to Christ. Far from it. This text simply invites us to be awake against a new attempt to stifle the announcement of this good news which was first addressed to the shepherds by the angels : "... A Savior has been born to you" (Luke 2:11). It is the fulfillment of God’s promise to send the Savior of Humanity who comes today to take away your sin. Celebrating Christmas makes everyone hear about the coming of Jesus Christ.

Satan, to stifle the birth of Jesus, had several new born babies massacred by Herod ; to parody the news of his resurrection, he invented by the same means a lie about the theft of his body by his disciples. Today, to limit the spread of the gospel of salvation and to cast doubt on the hearts of these thousands of saved souls who honor their Master, a pious engineering is being set up to distort the commemoration of the birth of Jesus- Christ.

Yes, Christ, didn’t institute Christmas, but we instituted it to honor it. Merry Christmas !
