"Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped." – Psalm 124:7 (KJV)
Life often presents challenges that feel like traps, holding us back from our true purpose. These snares can come in the form of sin, addiction, sickness, delays, toxic relationships, fear, or even self-doubt. At times, we may feel powerless, as if no matter how hard we try, we cannot break free. But Psalm 124:7 reminds us of a powerful truth—through God, the snare is broken, and we have escaped.
The enemy seeks to ensnare us, just as a fowler sets traps for birds. His tactics are often subtle. A small compromise here, a moment of weakness there, and before we know it, we are caught. The chains of sin tighten, making escape seem impossible. However, we serve a God who specializes in deliverance. His power is greater than any trap the enemy can set.
When the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt, they must have felt hopeless. Yet God, in His mercy, delivered them with a mighty hand. Their escape was not by their strength but by the power of God. The same is true for us today. Our escape is not dependent on our efforts but on the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Through His death and resurrection, He broke every snare that held us captive—sin, shame, fear, and condemnation.
Yet, even after we escape, we must remain vigilant. The enemy does not give up easily. He will attempt to ensnare us again, using deception and temptation. This is why we must stay rooted in God's Word. Psalm 119:105 says, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." When we walk in the light of His truth, we can see the snares before we step into them.
How do we maintain our freedom? By staying in prayer, immersing ourselves in Scripture, and surrounding ourselves with fellow believers who encourage and strengthen us. We must also cultivate a heart of gratitude, remembering that our escape was not by our own doing but by the mercy and power of God.
If you feel trapped today, take heart. The snare has already been broken. You are free. Walk in that freedom, knowing that Christ has made a way where there seemed to be none.
Prayer : Heavenly Father, please help us to walk in the freedom You have given us and to remain vigilant against the enemy’s traps in Jesus’ name.
