“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8
The story is told of a mother who raised her son with love and taught him basic values that should shape and guide his vision in life and destiny. At a certain age though, the boy started receiving pressure from his age-group to act in a way that was completely different from what he was taught. After some moments of resistance, he started acting like the other boys. He went as far as using different types of hard drugs.
One day as he was under the influence of such substances, he came home, beat his mother mercilessly and let her in a flood of blood almost dead. Attracted by the cries of the agonizing woman, neighbors sprang into the house, had the boy arrested and sent the woman to intensive care unit.
Some weeks later, the boy was to be brought before a court for judgement. As he left the prison car and was heading to the courtroom, there, in the middle of the crowd, was his mother with a small nylon bag in her hand. She stopped the procession and told her boy: “My son, I have come to assist you. Please take this: you have some gari (cassava flour) and klui-klui (a kind of peanut pancake very common in West Africa)”. The policemen were moved by the attitude of that woman who, despite what his son did to her, was still there to support him! What love!
It is that type of love that Jesus has for us. He paid the dearest price by giving his life as a ramson for our salvation. He should legitimately expect that we have that sacrifice constantly under our eyes so that we can resist the urge of sin and be attached to him. Instead, sin continues to have influence on some of us from time to time. However, instead of rejecting us, like that mother who, despite what she suffered and the scares that were still there to attest to it, he is still available and willing to help us.
It is possible that you did something that appeared to you so serious that devil has been suggesting to you that God does not love you and will never forgive you. Nothing is farther from the truth than that. With his comfortable arms wide open, Jesus is still waiting to welcome you back home. Come to him now without fear.
