“For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable”. Romans 11:29 (New International Version)

The volte faces, the resignations and the unexpected reversals are the recurrent lot of the human conventions. The parliamentary groups are defeated by surprising changes of opinions, the elected representatives of the people dismissed in a spectacular way, the institutions of nations constantly altered at will. Individual commitments are subject to withdrawal, contracts terminated anything goes. The crisis of trust is of such magnitude in our societies! The most valuable values are drowned. Marriages and other forms of union flow there.

The concept of the alliance is emptied in the sense of human relations and relations between nations. Where to find sealed integrity in sustainability? How to keep the given word without renouncing it? These questions bring us back to ourselves and more, to a simple truth: the mortality of the human being. Although he boasts an exceptional intelligence and superior capabilities, he remains so vulnerable, devoted to the mutation of the environment and to the degradation of time. His body is left to aging as much as his mind to corruption. In spite of his strong passion to defend the Master, Peter rather denied him three times. Abraham fell at the lowest point on the path of divine promise.

Who can boast of his own ability to maintain an implacable and imperishable integrity at this or that value? Who can swear by the perpetual constancy of his personal consciousness independently of any existential contingency? The human being is subject to a tendency almost irrefragable to the questioning at the turn of the road. But the LORD keeps his covenant and has mercy on those who love him. Daniel: 9.4.

God is faithful from age to age. His word is immutable. It does not suffer from any form of corrosion or alteration related to the time and circumstances of life. When He says in Isaiah 43, "I give men for thy ransom and peoples for thy life," it is done. When He declares in Acts 13: "I have made you to be the light of the Gentiles." It is done. God does not repent of His gifts and His call is irrevocable.
