“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.” Matthew 24:12

When our Lord Jesus Christ was asked by his disciples about “What will be the sign of His coming, and of the end of the world?”, his reply among many answers was ‘‘And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold’’.

After pondering over this verse, the Holy Spirit helps me to know that the love of many for God shall wax cold, and the love of many for one another shall wax cold.

Beloved, we all must know that the reasons why the love of many for one another has waxed cold is because of the love for money, power, fame and self-satisfaction. Many are in a hurry to satisfy their feelings without minding how the Almighty God feels and this as a result has caused people to do the unthinkable. Some of them are.

1. Emergence and expansion of LGBTQ

Legal proceedings and legislative action in many countries have given civil recognition to same-sex marriage relationships, and the question of same-sex marriage continues to be widely debated. We should bear in mind that marriage between a man and a woman was instituted by God and is central to His plan for humanity. Anything other than the plan of God around this is a sin and we must deviate from it. (Genesis 1:27-28).

2. Shedding of innocent blood.

It is widely known that God will not hold anyone blameless for shedding innocent blood. Some of the ways innocent blood is shed are through abortion, ritual killing, organ trafficking and wars.

3. Persecution and killing of Christians.

Christians are hunted and killed worldwide every day. A research published by christianitytoday.com in 2022 revealed that, there are 50 countries where Christians are mostly persecuted :19 Africa, 14 Asia, 10 Middle East, 5 Central Asia, and 2 Latin America. 13 Christians worldwide are killed daily because of their faith; 12 churches or Christian buildings are attacked daily; 12 Christians are unjustly arrested or imprisoned daily; 5 Christians are kidnapped.

WHAT MUST WE DO?

1. Have Spiritual Rebirth - John 1:12-13, Romans 7:4, I John 3:9, 2 Corinthians 5:17

2. Show Undying Love For One Another - John 15:12-13

3. Have A Self-Controlled Character – (Galatians 5:22-23, 2 Peter 1:5-8)

4. Make Prayer A Priority For Persecuting Believers
