Root of Hope

“So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic” Isaiah 28:16
Nowadays, speed has invested our lives to the point that we shift from one thing to another in rush. And without us taking notice of it, appearance, habit and attrition are threatening each of us. Nowadays life circumstances contribute to preventing us from being calm, rested and in peace.
Even during Jesus’ time, his disciples were already overwhelmed by that race mentality: “Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first” John 20:4.
Of course the idea or race should, in no way, serve as an excuse to laziness, quiescence, tolerance of sleeping temperaments that are enthroned in their comfort zone and avoid sacrifices just as they forsake abnegation.
But a remedy does exist for him that believes and it consists of avoiding letting it go of the present life. No matter what your work, your daily duty and the many details thereof might be, your heart remains in rest of which God Himself gives both the tone and the measure. He, it is, that keeps you in the palm of his hand, in the shadow of the All-Sufficient.
He hastens not he that believes and he hates acting under the duress. He knows how to unload his anxieties on God. When his work puts too much pressure on him and his job becomes tiresome to the point of overshadowing his communion with God, he anticipates the danger and understands that speed is about to overcome him. He takes cover under God’s guidance and lets Him walk before him and regulate the speed of his life.
We are required to run to win the prize of the race. Yet, it is clearly stated that we should do this while abiding by laid down rules. There is something better than “run quicker than Peter” and arrive to the “grave” where we feel our own spiritual death, dryness, barrenness, discouragement and tiredness…. Running to the grave, rather than walk as new born with the resurrected in all the power of the resurrection! His yoke is lighter. Nothing disturbs he that finds rest of the soul in him. He makes sure his work is in place and his communion with God remains the priority of his life
