SIR, I HAVE NO MAN…

“When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole? The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.” John 5:6-7

“Sir, I have no man!”. This is a very sad and even scary confession for it is demonstrated in this world that help comes from God to men through men. In such a context, not to have any man is as dangerous as a condemnation to a death sentence. Look at how not having a man to help him had kept that impotent man on the same spot for almost four decades, the most active and productive part of a person’s life. What a loss! It took Jesus and his omniscience to spot that man and terminate that long affliction!

In contrast with that story, look at the case of the paralyzed man of Luke 5: 18-20. The bible says that “some men” were carrying him on a man, trying to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. Once they assessed that it would be impossible to do so, these men take the paralyzed man on a roof, removed the cover and lowered him through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, just in front of Jesus. Look at how far they went, the amount of risk they were ready to take provided that the paralyzed man could get attention from Jesus and be healed. In the verse 20, Jesus called that faith and healed him! This is just fascinating.

We have a similar story about David in 2 Sam. 23:15-17. David wanted some water from his hometown and three of his bravest men risked their lives across the Philistine army and got him water from near the city gate in Bethlehem.

Do you have anyone in your life whom you have invested so much love, attention, money, patience etc. on that (s)he will be ready and willing to go to any extreme to help you and prevent any form of trouble from swallowing you? If, out of over 7 billion people living on planet earth, you aren’t precious enough to anyone who will be ready to sacrifice anything and everything for you, then, there is urgency for you to invest in relationship for relationships sometimes buy more than money and actually what money cannot buy
