Keep the tent

“… and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.” 1 Chronicles 15:1

Movement is a fundamental requirement of divine calling. The life of the Christian cannot be a life of parking or immobility. We are constantly called to move, to move towards the fulfillment of our destiny. This presupposes the discovery of the field of our mission. “Arise, walk through the land …for I will give it to you.” Genesis13:17. How much do we take time each day to ask the Father what is the call of our destiny? And yet this is an essential key to a life of prosperity in Christ: the consciousness of the mission.

While living in an African region in the heart of the Sahel, I can realize the incredible vocation of the nomadic communities. They are characterized by something singular, a sort of call to movement every season: it is the call of the shepherd. Breeders for the most part, their lives are constantly punctuated by the need to leave in order to protect and multiply their herds. At this call, the nomads are committed to abandon everything. With little regard for their own condition, braving deserts, winds and forests, these breeders are always ready for the mission. Their satisfaction lies in the continual response to the call of their lives.

Determined to achieve this goal, nomadic herders are often equipped accordingly. Several of them keep in their luggage a material of which they know well the preciousness: the tent. This easy-to-install housing is more than just a roadside kit. The tent is a place of rest on the day of exhaustion, a place of retreat at the time of inclement weather and a place of stability in situations of mutation. It is the privileged place to recharge and to take the forces necessary to the continuation of the course.

It is the same with the Christian life, which has many similarities with the condition of the shepherd. One of our most common behavior, is to neglect the tent and abandon it at the turn of the road. David knew how to preserve his own: the tent of adoration, the place of the Presence with inestimable benefits, the refuge of intimacy, the moment of internal retrenchment and communion with the bridegroom.

A call for this week

Pray to discern your mission. Arise resolutely to its fulfillment and never forget to arrange every day the tent of adoration, the time of provision and renewal on the path of your destiny
