"... How long will you be crouching on both sides? If the Lord is God, go after him; if it's Baal, go after him!” 1 Kings 18: 21
At the time when the prophet Elijah spoke to the people of Israel, King Ahab reigned. The previous chapters have focused on the state of the kingdom characterized by spiritual chaos set up by the king. "Whoever troubles Israel is you and your father's house, since you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and gone after the Baals, Elijah replied", v.18.
Indeed, Ahab, with the influence of his wife Jezebel, did everything to replace the worship of God with that to Baal in whose service were nearly 450 prophets and any prophet who could claim God was simply moved to sword v.4. The people, once entirely dedicated to the worship of God, is now facing a new worship, that of Baal. It is in this context that the call of Elijah comes to be inscribed: "How long will you be crouching on both sides? If the Lord is God, go after him; if it's Baal, go after him!” as if to say, is it not time for you to take a stand for God?
This call is still relevant today and is addressed to our readers who are still undecided; to those who have not yet said "YES" to the Lord and fully entrusted their lives to Him; to those who sincerely love the Lord and who regularly attend a church but are still reluctant to let the Lord take full place in their lives, who let the love and pleasures of the world discuss submission to Christ in their hearts; these people who have understood the message of the cross and sanctification, but who look to their sex-financial partner or their families and who are hesitating ...
Make no mistake, as Elijah shows us, you cannot serve two masters. There is no possible gender mix, either you are with God or you are against him. Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters. For he will hate the one, and love the other. You cannot serve God and Mammon”. Matthew 6:24.
If the Lord is God, go after Him!
If you hear his voice today, do not harden your heart, tomorrow may be too late.
Good meditation.
