“And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows” Exodus 3:7
Shocking to hear that God knows your sorrows? I know how it feels to read that sentence especially after months of prayers and sometimes fasting over some situations. You keep crying to God but it is as if nothing goes beyond the ceiling of your prayer room. Heavens look desperately silent and instead of improving, the situation you are waiting on God for remains stagnant if it does not worsen at all. You feel lost, abandoned, left to your own.
That was Israel’s situation in Egypt. During their 430 years of slavery, many generations of Israelites passed, each, with the hope that their prayers and cries would eventually attract God’s attention for a providential solution where they would secure their freedom. I imagine how Moses’s birth kindled the people’s hope and I equally think of how desperate they might have become on hearing that Moses had to flee after he had killed an Egyptian in the course of defending an Israelite. That probably made their little hope vanish thereby paving way to questioning.
The good news here is this: _no matter how silent God might be or look, from above, his eyes are on you and there is nothing about your situation that escapes his meticulous attention._ Sometimes, his silence is meant to see you mature some traits of your personality. At times, his desire is to assess if we are able to surrender ourselves to him and trust him wholeheartedly when sorrows abound from all sides. God’s silence in trial times is actually the moment some season Christians or half-Christians would turn their back to God and go back to look for solutions in the world.
Brethren and sisters, if there is a mistake to avoid at all costs when everything looks dark, it is forsaking God, sinning against Him or thinking of exploring alternative solutions elsewhere. You rather need to keep trusting Him against all odds. On seeing your level of faith, God will definitely be moved to intervene in your situation.
Please don’t mistake God’s silence for indifference and ignorance about your situation. In his silence, He is working out a solution for you. Just trust that He has heard your cries and knows every detail of what you are going through; let that feed your hope and support your faith in Him. Amen!
