“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake." Psalm 23: 2-3.

What name is it? With fear and fright, I answer that it is the name of the Lord, Yahve, the "I am who am" (Exodus 3:14), the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Exodus 3: 6). He is my creator and also yours. He is the living and true God, the unfathomable God, who turns the desert into a pool of water, and the arid land into springs of water (Psalm 107: 35). He will not give his glory to another, nor his honor to idols (Isaiah 42: 8). When he made the promise to Abraham, unable to swear by a greater than himself, he swore by himself, and said, "Surely I will bless you and multiply your seed" (Hebrews 6: 13-14).

What place does this name occupy in your life? When Pharaoh, monarch of Egypt wanted to recognize the talents of Joseph for the interpretation of the dreams, this one answered without hesitation: "It is not me! It is God who will give a favorable answer to Pharaoh. (Genesis 41: 15-16).

To recognize the place and the name of God in our life is of capital interest. God has sworn by himself to bless his children, and nothing can deprive us of this grace if we remain in filiation with our heavenly father.

The Bible declares that of all the good words he had spoken by Moses, his servant, none was without effect (1 Kings 8:56). Thus, it is with reason that David recognizes in verses 2 and 3 of Psalms 23 that it is because of His name that God nourishes him, gives him water, heals him, and leads him on the paths of justice.

All this is therefore not the object of any merit. The assurance given by the presence and the name of God should rob us of all fear and focus on the deliverance that his hand carries and the beneficial effects of the words that come out of his mouth. His promise to Abraham was fulfilled.

Because of his name, God is revealed to you today; he will heal you and restore you because of his name. For the sake of his name, he will turn your tears and sufferings into joy and make you a subject of joy among the nations.
