“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15
Man's desire of the things of this world is what keeps us from the presence of God. We strive to be rich, to be more powerful, to be named amongst the high class of the world and we forget to be in the presence of God. Jesus in Mathew 6:34 says "Ye cannot serve two masters, either you will hate the one and love the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon".
As I sit and watch the unfolding event of the Corona virus, it just shows me the futility of life. People had projected the growth of their businesses, the possibility of growth in career pathway. They have lost sleep, their relationship with God to build their Fortune on earth.
This reminds me of the parable of the rich man, who has stocked his barn with goods, busy building a life for his future, not knowing that his death was near. It shows us how foolish we can be sometimes. And Jesus did admonish us saying that we should store up treasures in heaven, and not on earth where they will be destroyed by moth.
We build our lives around jobs, companies that have failed us. Many a time we get depressed from our offices, the relationships we crave for, the companies we have built, the houses we have built and we forget God. The envy, jealousy, hatred, which is as a result of the desire to have everything and being famous causes anxiety, leading to depression and death.
Jesus is calling you today to choose life and live. Choose ye first, the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you. The peace that Jesus gives unto you is an everlasting peace, not as men will divide their spoil. Do not choose the philosophy of the world against God. Do not be selfish. Remember what Jesus says, if a man should love his life, he would lose it, but if he loses his life, he will get it. God is calling you to choose him. Be separate from the things of the world to be obedient to his commandment.
