“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14

As we start the New Year, we need to reflect on God's desire for us. God always desires us to eat good fruit from Eden to inherit the uttermost part of the heaven and the heathen.

However, this has been impossible because of the disobedience of man. When God promised the children of Israel a land flowing with milk and honey, he warned them that as they crossed the river Jordan, they should not serve the Gods that the Jebusites, the Gigasites are serving. He also warned that their children should not marry the children of the heathen, they should not envy the gold of the heathen. He concluded that if they brought anything cursed into their homes, they shall be cursed.

In the book of Joshua 7:13, God asked Joshua and said: “Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.”

How many of us have been in the company of friends that have had negative influence over us. How many of us have coveted what they have and been like them!

In the book of 1 Samuel, God warned Saul and his army to ensure they destroy everything they met of the Amalek. Saul's disobedience caused him to lose his anointing. The same thing happened in the book of Numbers when God asked the children of Israel to destroy the spoils of the heathen. This is a warning that God keeps giving the children of Israel which they never adhered to.

The same is happening in our own time, which is even worse than the days of Moses and Saul. Today, good has become bad and bad good. We see things that are bad and applaud them.

What difference are you going to make this year? Are you going to be numbered as a child of God? Repent and ensure you are not like the world. Be separate and bring no accursed thing to your family. Please note that God desires us to be holy, righteous so that we can be with him, walk with him and talk with him. Be in a company that could edify your soul and not those that would lead you to unrighteous works.
