“Tomorrow morning take the stick that turned into a snake, then wait beside the Nile River for the king.” Exodus 7: 15
The Israelites were under the yoke of slavery in Egypt, the land that welcomed them for 430 years. A Pharaoh that did not know Joseph troubled them deeply until God sent Moses to counter their oppressors by a mighty show of strength and superiority that none of the magicians and enchanters could fathom. The pharaoh was known as a god on earth. He was a sorcerer with supernatural ability thus ruling his kingdom with an iron fist. It is his custom to go early to the Nile River. What would take the pharaoh every day to the Nile? The Nile represented the source of his strength as he was working with the marine kingdom. These altars were the foundation of Egypt’s might and strength.
When God directs our path, he takes us through the core of the problem. God needed to confront the powers of darkness operating in the Nile in order to free his people. The Israelites who were promised the land of Canaan are now groping under harsh slavery. Whenever God gives you a promise, the devil seeks by all means to deter you from moving forward. In Israel’s case, the oppression arose from the leadership of the kingdom. Slavery was not the only option available, Pharaoh could have sent them away if he was fearing for his kingdom. We can easily draw that the devilish master mind was looking for everything else except their freedom.
God, to display his superiority, would send ten plagues in chronological order: 1) water turned into blood, 2) frogs, 3) lice, 4) flies, 5) livestock, 6) boils, 7) hail, 8) locust, 9) darkness and 10) death of firstborn. A close look at the plagues reveals that God started with the marine kingdom (plagues 1 and 2), the source of the pharaoh’s strength. It is clearly perceivable that these spirits have bowed to a higher deity. God did not only show their powerlessness by turning water into blood for days despite the sorcerers attempts to restore the water back to its original state but also God forced frogs to jump out of that water thus turning Pharaoh’s own strength against him. Where are these many frogs coming from?
What battle is God entrusting you with this season? Jesus is the only way who can guide and protect you all the way. You can trust him with your life.
