“Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you” Mathew 9:29

The chapter 9 of Mathew tells us about many miracles Jesus performed. One of them is related to two blind people who followed Jesus shouting out: “Have mercy on us, Son of David” (Mathew 9:27). They were so determined that they followed him on the way and in the house he was heading to. What was at stake was too important and they were set to do whatever was required.

Though he was glad to meet these blind people, Jesus showed them their healing would depend on themselves, on their personal initiative and their imperfect faith. “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” he asked them. “Yes Lord” (V 28) they replied almost in chorus. Jesus was obviously impressed by their courage and perseverance. He then touched their eyes saying “According to your faith, let it be done to you” and “their eyes were restored” (V.30).

Jesus’ statement “according to your faith let it be done to you” echoes the words he said to the centurion in Mathew 8:13. In both cases, faith came as a condition to the expected miraculous healing. Faith was therefore that key that could open divine blessing doors. Its absence could but keep the doors close. They therefore realized that their healing would depend on their own faith.

After Jesus had restored these blind people’s eyes, they could now see and understand what they couldn’t have seen before, including a new spiritual dimension. Both were substantially transformed and could soon embrace a new mission, that of spreading the news about Jesus all over that region.

Do you know that both your salvation and your healing will depend on your faith, irrespective of your imperfections? Jesus will definitely honor such a faith. May the Lord equip us with such operating faith!

Be strengthened and let’s have a nice work week!
