“After that you will come to the hill of God where the garrison of the Philistines is; and when you come there to the city, you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place [of worship] with harp, tambourine, flute, and lyre before them, and they will be prophesying. 6 Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you mightily, and you will prophesy with them, and you will be changed into another man. 7 When these signs come to you, do for yourself whatever the situation requires, for God is with you. 8 You shall go down ahead of me to Gilgal; and behold, I will be coming down to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings. You shall wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you must do.” 1 Samuel 10: 5-8
The Israelites have earlier beckoned Samuel to appoint a king over them as his children were not following his ways. This demand will be met with a warning about the king’s rights and duties. Against all odds, the Israelites accepted the terms and conditions. However, the king was to be appointed by the current judge over Israel. As this commotion was ongoing, Kish the father of Saul loses his donkeys. A prophetic turn of events will bring about Saul’s encounter with Samuel. Samuel will give Saul a series of occurrences that will cement his call.
As we move towards our God-given purpose and call, there will be people that will be placed along our paths. These are our destiny helpers, it is up to us to recognize them and honor them in order to receive from them. These people at times will have the experience and the connection needed to push our ministries forward. Few lessons we can learn from Saul’s encounter:
1.The call: Saul has the seed of kingship all along in him but the environment in which he grew could not allow that seed to germinate. The meeting with Samuel was the spark that lightened his bulb and thrusted him into his calling.
2.The equipping: the spirit of God coming upon Saul is the same experience as the baptism in the Holy Ghost. A gradual transformation takes place in us to make us ready for the ministry. The empowering of the Holy Spirit is already at play.
3.The release: although anointed Saul needed to wait for Samuel to tell him the right timing of his next move.
