Jericho : glory or shame ?

lundi 3 septembre 2018, par Josaphat TCHETAN-AWO

« But the army of the Chaldeans pursued them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. They took him and brought him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon .... » Jeremiah 39.5

Beloved ones,

In the memory of most of us, the evocation of Jericho reminds us of only one of Israel’s most resounding victories to the promised land. The collapse of the walls of Jericho without the use of any physical bomb has sown terror among neighboring peoples and remains to this day a sure reference for the child of God who faces walls of hardship.

However, the symbolism of Jericho varies according to whether it is Joshua or Zedekiah. For the very place where God performed a resounding miracle that definitely raised Joshua to the rank of great warlord, there too ended the pride of Zedekiah who was captured by the enemy army as the above verse points out.

What has happened so that the place of glory becomes the plain of shame ?

Zedekiah, however, had this well : He had a constant desire to hear the voice of God. But he has never been able to make the decisive step : to obey the Word of God, that is, to follow the recommendations of the Lord.

The reason for this inaction is that Zedekiah could never get rid of the accusing eye of those around him ; "25If the rulers learn that I have spoken to you, ... 26but say to them, I have entreated the king not to send me back to Jonathan’s house, lest I die there." Jeremiah 36 : 25-26.

Does this fear live in you ? Does the fear of what your husband, your wife, your children, your friends or even your pastor would tell you prevent you from taking the decisive step ? Remember the words of Peter and John in Acts 14:19 "... Judge whether it is right, before God, to obey you rather than God. "

The second problem of Zedekiah is what "would do those who passed on the side of the Chaldeans" Jeremiah 38.19. It is about people who wanted to deal with him and who have allied themselves with the enemies. When the fear of the group of people who fight you is overwhelming, remember Psalm 24 : 1 "To the Lord the earth and all that it contains, the world and those who dwell in it. "

These fears subsist when we lose our spiritual eyes and this loss was soon to manifest physically since the eyes of Zedekiah were burst.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, good meditation and good week under the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
