The Lord Is Faithful !

lundi 16 mai 2016, par Josepha HITOEMETO OUIKOUN

“If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself” 2 Timothy 2:13

As per the Larousse dictionary, faithfulness is the quality of someone who is faithful, devoted, related to something or someone, or the quality of someone who is constant in his feelings, affections, habits or the quality of something that is conform to exactness and truth, of somebody that is conform to it or the quality of somebody who does not fail in his promise, who does not betray his vow. Faithfulness triggers confidence and hope and the most perfect faithfulness is that of God. It does not weaken nor does it stop or is it denied.

The Psalmist praises God’s faithfulness when he said : “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge ; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart” Psalm 91:4

And it is exactly because God is perfectly faithful that we have sufficient reason to believe in Him. His faithfulness is the warrant that his words will achieve things in our lives.

Talking of God’s faithfulness naturally includes faithfulness of his son, the Lord Jesus-Christ. The Spirit of God is equally faithful to the mission the Lord entrusted to it, whether this is to convince and touch hearts, or to assist, teach, enlighten, support those who believe in Christ.

Talking about faithfulness, we also think of friendship, that feeling which will only be true if it stays steadfast, sincere, loyal, constant even in adverse circumstances : “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity” Proverb 17:17.

That’s why we can state and sing that Jesus is a faithful friend, always ready to welcome us irrespective of circumstances. Of course, we are both confused and amazed by such a faithfulness which is hardly findable in that state of perfection in humans, although faithful friends do exist but with their limitations.

We are encouraged to be faithful with perseverance, even in extreme situations. Faithfulness is the second name of true faith. This faithfulness involves the entire Christ disciple’s life and covers all fields, from the slightest things to the biggest ones.

We are all encouraged to be faithful in our relationship with people that surround us, whether in our words or through our actions. Of course, it is God’s desire that we be faithful to Him, in prayer, meditation of his word, obedience to his teachings, faith towards Him which is the token of our faithfulness to God.

However willful we may be, let’s recognize that our own efforts are not sufficient. We therefore need to seek faithfulness God can produce in us, in communion with the Lord and through communication of the Holy Spirit.
