When God Brings A Reign To An End !

lundi 1er février 2016, par Antoine DJETE

‘’Here is what these words mean : Mene : God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end’’’ Daniel 5:26

Belshazzar succeeded to Nebuchadnezzar, his father, a king to whom God gave an empire, lordliness, glory and magnificence. As a result of his power, all peoples, nations from all tongues continuously lived in fear and literally quivered before him. The king put to death or spared life to those he wanted. He rose up or brought down who he wanted. But when his heart got filled with selfishness and his spirit hardened up to arrogance, he was pushed from his royal throne and deprived from his glory.

Thus Nebuchadnezzar was chased away from the midst of people, his heart became like those of animals, and he dwelt with wild donkeys. He was fed on grass like cows and his whole body was wet with the heaven dew until he came to recognize that the Supreme God has dominion on men’s reign and that he gives its exercise to him that pleases Him.

Dear readers, no doubt that reminder should be important for Belshazzar, Nebuchadnezzar’s son and for us today as well

Belshazzar drew no lesson from what happened to Nebuchadnezzar, his father and he did not humble his heart either though he saw all those things. He drew God’s anger to himself when he brought to his house the vessels of gold from the House of God for him, his lords, his wives and concubines to drink from them.

They then praised the god of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone, these things which can’t see, hear and which know nothing, rather than give glory to the God in whose hands are his breath and all his ways.

Having taken notice of this, Daniel shared with him God’s decision : “Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed : MENE, MENE, TEKEL, and PARSIN. This is the interpretation of the matter : MENE, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end. TEKEL, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting ; PERES, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.’’

God has given us talents or has entrusted us with missions and responsibilities to achieve results at a specific period so that His name be glorified. Mid-way or at the end of the mission, the Lord makes his assessment, appreciates the methodology we use, the means and the outcomes and puts an end to our mission “so that we know that the Most High has dominion over reign of men’’.

I would like to solemnly tell us once again that God watches over the way we manage the power, the talents, the competencies and responsibilities He gives us. After His many warnings, if we keep not learning lessons from past experiences, if we fail to repent, God will put an end to our actions. God is not mocked for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Nothing is hidden before the Lord and everything is naked : he will reward each as per their deed.

And when God puts an end to a reign or a deed, there is no appeal to place because His decision is irreversible and the Bible says in Daniel 5:30 that ‘’In that night was, Belshazzar, the kind of the Chaldeans slain.

Let’s commit ourselves to be faithful to God so as to be able to complete our mission without God prematurely putting an end to it.
