dimanche 7 mai 2023, par Timothy Sam

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in ? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard ? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them ? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent ?" Romans 10:14-15

The act of testifying is an important part of the Christian faith. It involves sharing our experiences with God, declaring His goodness, and sharing the Gospel with others. However, there are dangers associated with not testifying. Below are some of these dangers.

1. Missed Opportunities

When we choose not to testify, we miss out on opportunities to share the love of Christ with others. "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16) By keeping our experiences with God to ourselves, we fail to be a light to those around us.

2. Disobedience

In Mark 16:15, Jesus commands His disciples to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." When we choose not to testify, we are disobeying this command. We are called to be His witnesses (Acts 1:8), and failing to testify is a form of disobedience to our Lord.

3. Hindering the Spread of the Gospel

Not testifying can also hinder the spread of the Gospel as shown in our memory verse.

4. Losing Our Saltiness

In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells His disciples, "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again ? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." When we fail to testify, we are losing our saltiness. We become ineffective as witnesses for Christ.

5. Denying Christ

Finally, not testifying can be a form of denying Christ. In Matthew 10:32-33, Jesus says, "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven." When we choose not to testify, we are failing to acknowledge Christ before others.

In conclusion, not testifying can have serious consequences for our faith and for the spread of the Gospel. We must be bold in sharing our experiences with God and declaring His goodness to those around us. As Paul writes in 2 Timothy 1:8, "So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord (…). Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God”
